Dubai

Dubai is without doubt one of the most impressive and diverse up and coming holiday destinations. Under seven hours flying time direct from Gatwick, Heathrow, Manchester or Birmingham, Dubai is easily accessible for a luxurious long weekend as well as a desired stop over en route to the Indian Ocean.

Dubai offers year round sunshine with very little or no rainfall. Temperatures range from mid twenties in January to a soaring high forties in August, however, the heat is humidly bearable rather than searing sunshine. All of the hotels and restaurants have air conditioning throughout.

We travelled in August of this year and chose the very sumptuous Ritz Carlton Hotel on Jumeirah Beach. Our flight arrived into Dubai Airport late in the evening to a very welcoming and smiley night time temperature of 39 degrees. We were met at the airport for our private transfer to our hotel with courteous efficiency and driven through the impressive high rise sparkling city of Dubai.

The Ritz Carlton Hotel is the most intimate luxury hotel on Jumeirah Beach, with 138 deluxe or executive rooms or suites, all sea facing. As the name implies the Ritz Carlton is a complete delight. The hotel was completed to an extremely high standard six years ago; the design is Arabic and Roman, with gentle terracotta buildings and a tiled roof. The low rise Ritz Carlton is surrounded by beautiful exotic gardens running down to the private white sand beach. The hotel is exclusive and calm, with ample space to feel private when relaxing in the gardens. The service is very discreet and attentive, nothing is too much trouble and the staff genuinely enjoy ensuring that your stay is as memorable as possible.

The Ritz Carlton has several magnificent restaurants all of which over look the gardens or the sea and wherever one chooses to dine the food is world class standard. The very gorgeous La Baie Restaurant is unmissable, truly romantic and totally splendid. For alternative relaxation and romance one should also order the exquisite room service and dine in private overlooking the palm trees and sea.

The rooms at the Ritz Carlton equal the excellence the Ritz name demands. All of the rooms are elegant and spacious and of course contain everything one would expect from a five star resort – and more.

The Ritz Carlton has one of the most sought after and luxurious Spa facilities in Dubai. The Balinese Spa offers extensive and diverse therapeutic treatments to relax and invigorate mind and soul. There is also a state of the art gym, sauna, Jacuzzi, floodlit tennis courts, two squash courts, aerobic lessons and a pitch and putt golf course. Extensive water sports are available; water skiing, scuba diving, fishing, windsurfing, snorkelling and sailing. There are two free form pools, with a waterfall and a swim up bar. They also have a children’s pool with a very fast slide and excellent childcare and crèche facilities.

One cannot prevent the sense of calm relaxation and serenity that staying at the Ritz Carlton Dubai bestows. Every member of staff is dedicated to the excellence of their service and sincere care of each visitor. Nothing is too much trouble and almost anything is possible. We could not fault our first visit to Dubai and it most certainly won’t be our last.
